What is a Legacy Facilitator?
A Legacy Facilitator gently guides individuals through the process of preserving their memories using The Story We Leave™ journals and Legacy Method™.
Who is this certification for?
This certification is designed for people who want to help others preserve meaningful memories, including hospice volunteers and staff, death doulas, caregivers, senior center staff, activity directors, educators, grief support professionals, and others with a heart for preserving memories.
Do I need previous experience?
No. No prior counseling, coaching, or interviewing experience is required. The course teaches the TSWL Legacy Method™ step by step.
Is this a counseling or therapy certification?
No. Legacy Facilitators guide conversations and help participants preserve memories. They do not diagnose, treat, or provide mental health services.
What will I learn?

How long does the course take?
The course is self-paced. Most participants complete the training over several weeks, depending on the time they choose to dedicate to it.
What happens after I complete the course?
After successfully completing the course and final assessment, you'll receive your Legacy Facilitator Certificate of Completion.
Can I use this certification in my own business?
Yes. You may incorporate legacy journaling into an existing business or offer it as a stand-alone service. You are responsible for your own pricing, scheduling, and business practices.
Can I volunteer as a Legacy Facilitator?
Absolutely. Facilitators may volunteer with hospice programs, senior centers, churches, veterans' organizations, libraries, and community groups.
Will I receive materials to help me get started?
Yes. The certification includes practical resources and tools designed to help you begin facilitating with confidence.
Can I facilitate sessions online?
Yes. Sessions may be conducted in person or online, depending on participants' preferences and comfort level.
Do participants have to finish their journals?
No. Participants work at their own pace and can answer the prompts that matter most to them.
Is there an age requirement?
Yes. Participants must be at least 18 years old to enroll in the Legacy Facilitator Certification program.
What makes The Story We Leave™ different?
TSWL focuses on meaningful memories, life lessons, family traditions, and personal wisdom—not simply filling out a journal.
Can I facilitate sessions for family members?
Yes. Many people become certified so they can help preserve the stories of parents, grandparents, spouses, veterans, or other loved ones.
Is certification renewed each year?
No. TSWL certification does not currently require annual renewal.
How do I enroll?
Select the Legacy Facilitator Certification on the website, complete your registration, and you'll receive instructions for accessing the course materials.
TSWL Certification is designed for independent contractors who wish to offer legacy-story services using the TSWL framework.
Certification does not constitute employment, partnership, or agency with The Story We Leave™.
Certified facilitators operate their own independent businesses and are solely responsible for their clients, services, scheduling, fees, and compliance with local laws and regulations.
